CODEQUEST

The SCSO and the AAO again co-hosted the "First in the Nation" coding seminar this past January. It was as always well attended by ophthalmologists and their staff from throughout the Southeast. The next CPT Coding Seminar will be held January 9, 2009 in Columbia, SC. Watch for further announcements.

ADVOCACY

Ron Scott and our SCSO advocacy team have been tirelessly working in Columbia to ensure that patients in our state receive only the best eye care.  Please communicate directly with your state legislator as the 117th General Assembly will convene January 13, 2009, at the State House.

YOUNG OPHTHALMOLOGISTS

The SCSO is making a concerted effort to reach out to South Carolina's young ophthalmologists. Jennifer Merritt, MD of Eastern Carolina Regional Eye Center in Myrtle Beach has been selected as the representative at SCSO board meetings for the Young Ophthalmologists Division.  Dr. Merritt has also been selected as a participant for the 2007-2008 Leadership Development Program sponsored by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

The Resident Advocacy Program, organized by Tom Whitaker, MD, which has been so well received in the past, has become an annual event on the residency calendar.
